The Central Regional Special Education Unit partners with member districts to ensure free appropriate public education for all students with disabilities.

Our Approach

It is the vision of the Central Regional Special Education Unit to devote human resources  and expertise to develop and promote results-driven and innovative special education services and programs.

The Central Regional Special Education Unit focuses on individualized, student-centered strategies. It involves creating tailored educational plans that address each student's unique needs, strengths, and goals.

 

Our approach emphasizes inclusive practices, collaboration among educators, families, and specialists, and the use of adaptive materials and techniques to foster a supportive and engaging learning environment.

Services Provided

Early Childhood Special Education

Our early childhood special education teacher supports young children ages 3-5 with diverse learning needs, helping them develop essential skills through personalized instruction and tailored activities. They create a nurturing environment, collaborate with families and specialists, and design adaptive learning strategies to promote each child's growth and development. 

Social Emotional Disorder Coordinator

The SED coordinator helps schools address students' emotional and behavioral challenges by developing and implementing  supportive strategies, essential skills and programs. They provide guidance on creating inclusive environments, offer training to staff, and work directly with students and families to promote the essential skills necessary to enhance ones emotional well-being and positive behavior. 

Occupational Therapy

Our occupational therapy services help students develop, recover, or maintain the skills needed for dailing activities and routines. Therapists work with students to improve fine motor skills, coordination, and cognitive abilities, using personalized activities and strategies to enhance independence  and overall quality of life. 

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy services help students improve their physical abilities and mobility to enhance their participation in school activities. Therapists work with students to address issues like coordination, strength, and flexibility through personalized exercises and interventions. Physical therapists collaborate with teachers and families to integrate therapeutic goals  into the classroom setting ensuring students can engage in academic and social activities. 

Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy services help students improve their communication skills, including speaking, understanding, and using language effectively. Therapists work on areas such as articulation, fluency, and voice, as well as receptive and expressive language skills. Speech therapists create personalized treatment plans helping students enhance their ability to communicate clearly and confidently in various settings. 

School Psychologist

School Psychologists work wihin a school setting to assess, support, and intervene with students' academic, cognitive, behavioral, and emotional needs by collaborating with teachers, parents, and administrators to create a positive learning environment. The School Psychologist conducts psychological evaluations to identify learning disabilities or mental health concerns when necessary. School Psychologists advocate for students who may require special education services and work to improve school-wide policies that support student well-being. 

Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA)

The Board Certified Behavioral Analyst conducts comprehensive behavioral evaluations to identify specific behavioral challenges and their triggers. The BCBA develops targets and measurable behavior intervention plans tailored to each student's needs, including positive reinforcement strategies, behavior modification techniques, and crisis intervention protocols. Using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles, implementing these plans collection and analysis to ensure studen't behavior goals are met effectively. The BCBA works with school staff, parents, and professionals to assist in meeting the needs of the whole child in all environments. 

English Language Services

The EL program is an English language development program using content for the development of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing skills. English Language Services can support with the completion and integration of Home Language Surveys for Kindergarten students and all new registrations,​​ off-site technical assistance, consultation, and support (via phone or email). CREA English Language Services can also provide access to training on effective English Language instruction
